Stronger Together: How Event Pros Can Support Each Other Right Now

The events industry, just like many other industries right now, is suffering. And no one knows exactly what the effects of this will be in the long-run. Because this is such an unprecedented situation, fear is settling in. Jobs are being lost, events are being canceled, and the whole paradigm of the industry has shifted. But it’s important to remember that we’re all in this together. Now, more than ever, it’s paramount that we behave a community. As we mentioned before, fear is settling in – and that’s a perfectly natural and human reaction. As an event prof, know that you are not alone in this.

So, what can you do right now? The best thing is to reach out. Because there’s no need to put on a brave face right now. On the contrary, if there was a time to talk to other people in the industry, this is it. Being vulnerable isn’t a weakness or something to be ashamed of. Instead, we strongly believe that by the time it all blows over, it will prove to be one of the biggest and best takeaways from the experience. Share your feelings, share your ideas. Let your colleagues, friends, and contacts in the industry share their feelings and ideas.

We’re an industry that relies heavily on the strength of bringing people together. Of building strong relationships. And all things considered, this is very much the worst-case scenario for us. But why not take advantage of the fact that we live in a day and age where we can still reach out to others in a time of need and desperation? Have virtual chats. Organize weekly virtual brunches. Join our Slack support group for event profs. And show the world that the enormous force of human connection cannot be broken down so easily. Be the incredible event prof you are and support other event profs. Listen to what our incredible hosts Will Curran, Thuy Diep, Dustin Westling, and Nick Borelli have to say. Stay positive, stay connected. At the end of the day, we are stronger together – even if we have to be apart.
