👋 Back from the 3-day weekend!
Sorry I am a day late! I just got back from a refreshing trip to Seattle, Washington with my friends. To any Seattleite that is reading this, I love your city. The art, the food, the weather, the tourist attractions – I adored it all. Traveling is something that is important to a lot of people in our company. And I realize why.
Going somewhere new always gives me a change in perspective and allows me to look at things in a whole new way. It even begins as soon as the plane takes off. Seeing the world from high up makes me think about the 1.62 million people in my city below. They are all so different, they all do such different things.
As a marketer, this helps me shift my focus away from myself and more towards the people who read my emails. It makes me think about who they are, what they do, and what they might be interested in.
As an event planner, it can be easy to fall into the trap of thinking of the self and trying to plan the most over-the-top event for vanity reasons. But the best events that my team and I have experienced are the ones that are planned with the attendees in mind. These events tend to have a clear purpose and offer real value!
Okay. I’m done with the hippy-dippy, existential rant. I hope you can forgive me if my ideas weren’t perfectly formed (I just got back from a three-day weekend, what do you expect?) But maybe we can all seek out things that change our perspective this week. Or maybe even buy a plane ticket 💁
🤝 You might not be familiar with these AV fees (14-minute read)
As an event planner, you are most likely familiar with the standard AV fees. But, have you ever gotten done with an event and realized you were charged a babysitting fee, power fee, and loading dock fee? Where did those come from? Kaitlin Colston wrote an article explaining these fees and others, where they come from, and how to make sure that they don’t surprise you after your event.

🔌 You’ve got the power (10-minute video)
Not to take the Farmers Insurance tagline… but we know a thing or two because we have SEEN a thing or two. Especially when it comes to anything AV-related. Will Curran filmed a fantastically informative Whiteboard Wednesday on why power placement matters – it was inspired by a real-life power issue that he had to solve.
